I brewed an Oktoberfest last Thursday (well lets call it a fall lager for the traditionalists). I've been trying to brew beers that don't need a ton of hop presence so i can use of some of my old stuff in the freezer. I chose to go with the 2008 US Northern Brewer pellets I had. They still smelled pretty good so I went with 1.25oz @ 60 and 1.5oz @30....I figured they had degraded a good amount. Just for fun I plugged the numbers into Promash Hop Time to give an estimate of my IBUs of stuff that old. They were kept in the freezer vacuumed packed after the common's I made. According to Promash they started at 8.6AA and only went down to 7.47AA after 42 months! So I may have made an FESTIPA at 73IBU! The 2308 started pretty slow so its gonna be a month before i can taste and see if its a big bitter fest.

That seems high assuming a 5 gal batch.

I wouldn't have thought your AA loss could have been correct but the math is solid.https://morebeer.com...2.1/garetz.html

Seriously...should have calculated before I brewed it. I now see a freezer cleaning IIPA in my future...I wouldn't have thought your AA loss could have been correct but the math is solid.https://morebeer.com...2.1/garetz.html
