Kegerator sprung a freon leak . $850 to get fixed. Only 7 years old. A really nice Frigidare unit. Guess I'll be modifying a chest freezer tomorrow.

Very sorry to hear it. 7 years does not seem to be a long enough life. I'll bow my head and chug a glass of MLPA in its honor tonight.

Sucks about your kegerator but look on the bright side... you should have room for lots more taps with a keezer.

Have some 3 gal kegs in one of the fermentation chambers. Picked up a stand freezer from Craigs list to free up the chest freezer for a keezer. tomorrow will be busy.

Looks like you have a plan, but sorry your fridge went out!I am really not looking forward to when one or both of my AC units goes out. I am tempted to keep a spare one on hand, but that's expensive!

I thought about that when I was building the walk-in cooler, and I just don't feel comfortable getting a used unit for this purpose. I was buying used chest freezers, and they kept dying on me. I don't want to keep replacing AC units, so I'd rather buy them new just to start fresh. The one I am using is about $200 new, and it is analog, so it is very easy for me to modify, and I know that if it doesn't work out of the box, I can get a replacement (I wouldn't get a replacement after putting it in use in the walk-in cooler, just to make sure I start with a working unit).

I couldn't agree more.....I constantly hear a voice from my childhood saying "why do you never have time to do it right, but you always have time to do it over?".....

Same here. In the summer, any AC unit still in the pawn shop almost definitely has something wrong with it.

I'll tap an I2A2 (Imperial India Amber Ale) in honour, and thank the Lord, the Avocado Green Monster is still humming away. I'm down to four taps but it sure beats zero.
