What to do with my 5g of mead

I thought I would start a seperate thread on this. Thans again for all of your help guys. This is my first batch and it was just honey,water,yeast and SNA. After a few months in a secondary I was thinking about transferring into 5 1g jugs and adding different fruit or spices to them. My wife likes my beer but is more of a wine drinker. My goal is to make a recipe that she desires. She loves peaches. I ws goin to add peaches to one, cinnamon and clove to another for the winter, leave one alone. Not sure what to do with the other two. Do you guys ever flavor your mead this way?

That is a great way to try out some different options. Developing recipes for mead can take a long time, just due to the nature of the beast. Splitting batches definitely helps

Like doob said, it's a good way to get some different looks. Cin/clove (and for that matter nutmeg) are tongue numbing so shade to the lighter side. Sparkling ginger mead absolutely kicks ass on a hot summer day. I usually figure 5lbs of peaches - that's blanched, peeled and stoned weight - per gallon, my preference is for freestone over cling, but YMMV. You could also do a gallon using red berries, raspberries, cherries, mixed with blackberries and/or blueberries. Do keep at least one gallon unadorned so you have a base reference point. The fun begins.

Standard practice here, especially when doing methlygns. I've done fennel seed, vanilla/cinn is good. Have a Chinese birdseye going in a 1 gal jug.Now get going on another 5 gal batch!

Took another gravity reading. 1.001. In the carboy it doesn't look super clear but in the hydro and the glass I poured the sample in you could read a newspaper through it. Good flavor but still hot. Might transfer again in a month. A lot of lees have built up in the secondary. After this transfer she is going to sit for awhile

So I transferred this again sunday night. In two months it is much smoother than after my last transfer. I have only had one mead before and it was a sweet mead from Australia. This being dry I guess it tastes like it supposed to. Need to try a good commercial brand so I have a comparison. This is still a little hot though. Color is more of a yellow that the orange I was expecting but it is very clear. Going to start another batch in a month hopefully. I will not be doing anything to this one for at least four months.
