SWMBO and I were out visiting some of the nearby wineries today. We hit a couple that we've never visited before. One of them also offered a sparkling off-dry cider. It was rather tasty I must say. This particular winery is also part of a fruit farm. They sell their fruit roadside.I inquired as to the apple varietals used in the cider. The server did not know specific varitals but did say they were English varietals and NOT typical North American apples. Hmmmmmm. I asked if there was any chance a guy like me could get my mitts on some of these apples or maybe the raw cider. Pourer said she didn't know but would ask the right people if I left contact info. I gave my email address, bought a bottle of their tasty cider and went on my merry way.Moving ahead to this evening, what do I find in my email inbox? A reply from the wine maker !!He said that they generally use all of the apples for the cider. BUT, he wasn't sure they were going to do a cider again this year. It would depend on sales results. If they don't do a cider this year, they would be more than happy to sell me their cider apples. So, we'll see. Wine maker said he'd know soon whether they were going to do cider or not.I have a good friend with a fruit press. If it comes to pass, Imma making cider with English varietals !!!*crosses fingers**contemplates yeasts*
