It looks like the max width is 150px now. I've always thought 50px or 75px was too small, half the time you can't even tell what the avatar is at that size. 150px is pushing it though. I think 100-125px is probably the sweet spot where you can make out what all the avatars are, but they aren't annoyingly large. That being said, 150 isn't too much of an annoyance.
