I managed to screw up my first batch by not priming correctly. I have learned. Hopefully this batch will prime properly. Wish me luck!Cheers,Rich

Good luck. Let us know how we can help. Ask any questions, even if you don't think they are important.

Good luck, but you won't need it, because you already learned how to fix your mistake. At least for me, that's how it still goes for every batch, even on batch number..... who knows how many hundreds? I always try to learn something from each beer I make.

I hate bottles. It took me 2.5 hours to just get all the bottles clean and sanitized. I should have started earlier. I split the job up between saturday and sunday. I got it done though. I just realized that I don't have enough bottles for my second batch. I guess I'm gonna need a trip to the LHBS. My GF's dad is giving me some old grolsch bottles so I'm gonna need new seals. Cheers,Rich

2.5 hours to clean and sanitize the bottles?!?!?!? Were you doing each one by hand or something?I fill up a bucket of hot water and Starsan and let the bottles soak in for about 5 minutes, then immediately fill them. I can bottle a batch in under and hour. You can solve your lack of bottles by purchasing more beer...hey, it gives me an excuse!!! :P

I hear it's better to use cold water with starsan. And if that's all you do to your bottles you aren't really cleaning them and hence - not sanitizing that well either.

What should I be doing? I've never had any issues with contamination in the bottles. Obviously, I do rinse them very well after I pour them, then let them dry, store and then sanitize.

I guess it depends on how much you trust that rinse after you drink them. I normally soak mine in oxiclean and run a bottle brush through them and then rinse in hot water. After this I actually dunk them in sanitizer.

If and when I bottle a few or a batch for my friend I normally soak my bottles in Oxy clean for about 10 15 mins then I follow that with a 3-5 minute contact time of bottle and iodophor. Makes for a nice clean bottle that I have seen as well. Better yet if you are dedicated get into kegging LOL Good luck!!

Ugh. I have to bottle a batch tonight. It's a 3 hour chore here too. Damn.I need to get me a counter pressure filler, or a Beer Gun.
