Nice article. Seneca Lake is a couple hours from me. I'll have to check out that new hop farm.

I suspect a boom in hop farming in NY will be upon us in less than a decade. Craft beer is growing immensely up here and is absolutely looking toward local materials.

This is from an email I got in September:Thought I'd give you the info we got at club last week regarding the local hops available for you to pass on to the other members. The guy's name is Dennis and he has available for u-pick centennial, cascade and red vine for $5 a bine. His number is xxxxxxxx. He lives on 142 street, the first house east of 64th street on the southside.VicThe location is here:https://maps.google....psrc=6&t=h&z=14I assume the buyer dries, I think you just cut down a bine and thats what you get, you have to do any drying or processing. I didn't go there, too busy. If you want the guy's phone number, let me know I will PM.There are other growers here, it is a fairly new thing that is catching on. If I had land I would be doing it too.

I know a guy who started a 15 acre hop farm in Niagara County. Flying Bison was buying his product before they closed. I don't know if that hop farm survived Flying Bison's closure.

From the looks of it the dude has a fair number of bines. I went zipping past there yesterday on my way up to Hart, Muskegon and GR. Cool idea but I'm sure I'll forget him by the time the next crop is ready for harvest.Beach

I'm intending to try my hand at this. I've got a ~10 acre area that would be good for hops, but I need to also get some wind barriers.

looks like a pain in the ass.
