I've had the Laughing Dog Impy IPA. Was all right, but I'm more of a malt profile guy than a hop fan. Drank it, but wouldn't buy it for myself.

In before the move to the beer forum. And by the way, it is biochemically impossible to get over 130 IBU into a beer, and practically impossible to get over 105.Sorry, it is all marketing hype.We tested one beer that was advertised as over 100 bu (forget which one) and it clocked in at about 70. yeah, that tends to be me as well, although i do like to get all crazy and try super hoppy beers sometimes.

I would bet that NONE of those beers are actually over 100 IBU.MolBasser

Is that a solubility issue?

I bet that 2007 is a typo, probably supposed to say 200. ETA: my bad they claim a theoretical 2007 IBU, so not a typo. They also brew a beer called 1000 ibu, reviews say it is bitter but not that bad.

Is it possible to add ibu's bost boil through some sort of isomerized (sp?) hop oil addition?

It doesn't matter. There's only so much iso-alpha acid you can dissolve in beer. As Basser said, that limit is about 130 ppm.

Lagunitas Hop Stoopid - meh+Stone Ruination - ;)Stone - Double Bastard - mehI'm finding that I'm becoming less interested in beers that are overly hoppy. I'm more interested in a good balance of maltyness and a nice finish of hop bitterness - but not over the top. Don't get me wrong, every now and then I like to be punched in the balls by a good hoppy brew, but certainly not as fascinated as I once was about it. :smilielol:

Asking becuase I have no clue. Can you get more IBU's than 130 with the use on a hop extract?

No, it is a solubility issue with the hop acids.MolBasser

so basser - does this mean if I'm estimating much over 100 IBUs that I shouldn't bother adding more hops? I don't think my equations have the cut off you are talking about. is the solubility a hard limit or does it become harder and harder to get more IBUs as you get closer to it?
