We are attempting to track down the cause of the board slowdowns. One theory is that searches that spin through the entire database use so much CPU time that the board is unavailable until the search is completed. We have disabled search functions on the board in an attempt to prove or disprove this theory. One way or another, search functions will be re-enabled at some point. If searches are the cause of the problem, we will prune the database, restrict searches to certain areas of the board, or find some other solution.Thank you for your patience, and we apologize for the inconvenience.

I did not know that. This is not a permanent change, if we can help it. This is just an attempt to diagnose the problem.

My observations were that the board was much more responsive. How about yours?

I didn't have any troubles while search was disabled, but it happened just as I was coming back from a 9 day vacation so I couldn't real make a direct comparison. I don't think that I had noticed as many problems recently as some people, outside of one particular day a few weeks ago.

Thanks Libra. I'm curious what the general consensus was.

I did just have some problems a few minutes ago, although now the board seems pretty responsive again.

Is the search function available to unregistered users? That might be something to fix.

Good call BBM. I disabled search for guests and validating members.

I turned search off completely this morning after a 15 minute outage. Sorry, I forgot to drop a note in there. I'll turn it back on now with that new restriction.
