So I am totally against salt in beer. I hate the idea of bloody beer, chilada, red beer, or whatever you call it.I am not even a big fan of putting fruit in my hefeweizen.BUT, I really love the Shandy on a hot summer day. I normally use an american lager like Miller High Life, then mix it half and half with a lemon lime soda. I mostly use Sprite Zero. It is cold, refreshing and makes the alcohol content lower so I can drink them all day while out grilling in the yard with the neighbors. What say the PH?~dustin

I've never had it, but it does sound nice. It's not too sweet?

there are different methods... some just add lemonade, others do the lemon-lime thing, etc...

I've been drinking shandy like crazy - almost exclusively - for weeks. I have a sanke keg of Miller High Life in the keggerator right now that goes really well with 1/3 good lemonade or limeade like Minute Maid or Simply Lemonade. I had 7 or 8 quarts of the stuff on the 4th.

I've never had a shandy, but I love me a good snakebite. Traditionally it is Harp and cider, but I've made them with other lagers (Yeungling works well, and I usually have it around). It is nice and light tasting, but is actually pretty high alcohol. Those bastards'll sneak up on you (speaks from experience).

Yes, I think in Germany they call them Radlers.I mix mine half and half by sight and I am not real exact. If I read correctly George is making his 1 part lemonade to 2 parts beer. I may try that next time so YMMV.Also, I used to just use lemonade, but to me they sometimes seem flat if I do that, so I started using the lemon lime soda. The 4th of July is a good example as I drank these all day but didn't (and didn't want to) get totally blitzed. If I just drink beer all day, I am ready to take a nap by 4pm.~dustin

Whoa, slow down there, I am just as much a drunkie as the next guy. (well probably more)On Saturday night I had some bottles of Devil's Backbone by Real Ale. They are a belgian style triple and I had so many I don't exactly remember my wife driving me home. I am just saying sometimes I like to drink beer at 8am and if I mix it with lemonade I feel better about it.~dustin

I was visiting my cousin who was stationed in Heidelberg, and I ended up getting very drunk. I puked in his sink and had the worst hangover the next day. Unfortunately we were taking the train to Munich for Oktoberfest the next day. I was so hungover I couldn't force myself to drink any beer, so I ended up drinking shandys the whole time at Oktoberfest <_<

I was at Milwaukee Summerfest last weekend and was hanging out in the Leinie area and went to get a beer. I asked my wife if she wanted something and she said, "Leinie? Oh yeah... Summer Shandy!". So I get a Classic Amber for myself and a shandy for her and when I took a sniff of that shandy, it smelled like Lemon Pledge. I did not take a sip but I handed it to her saying, Here's your lemon-scented furniture cleaner! I'm not opposed to the idea at all but I'll admit that I've never had it. Maybe I'll make one over the weekend. 1/3rd lemonade + 2/3rd beer? Check.

I think there's some confusion here...Shandy as drank in England is made with 1/2 "lemonade" and 1/2 beer. "lemonade" in England is the American equivalent of 7-up, not "lemonade" like minute maid makes. When ordering, you need to not only specify size (pint or 1/2 pint), you also have to specify whether you would like a lager shandy or a bitter shandy (made with english bitter). They are very refreshing on a hot day. I can't say I've tried the version with American lemonade. I think the version made with American lemonade is considered a "radler".Guinness had suggested mixed beverages on their website some time ago. I remember trying a "bumble bee" (1/2 guinness, 1/2 orange juice). Now that's a breakfast drink. They also drink "lager and lime" in England, which is made with Roses' lime juice.
