I havent done a damn thing to them either. No fertilizer, just rain water (weve had a ton) and no trellis yet. They've been groing up and through the lattice on my deck. I have tons of cones growing in the shady spot under my deck and a crapload of flowers budding on the outside. I should get a couple nice brews out of it this year. Next year I will be putting up a nice tall trellis so they can produce better, but I figured this year I'd let them run wild and help to develop thier root structure. By the way, how do I know when to harvest the little suckers?

The "leaves" of the cones will become dry and papery. That and you could sacrifice a few by cutting or splitting them lengthwise and check out their lupelin (sp?) glands. They should be kinda fuzzy looking and yellow like the lines on the street. Don't forget to crush them in your hands then stuff your face in your hands... :)EDIT: You don't want them to get too brown. Some brown is OK though.By the way, how do I know when to harvest the little suckers?
