Moving closer to building and getting my stir plate in working order and I have a question as the title states. Is there some sorta store I can go to and get a rare earth magnet or do I need to order one online and thats all? I am hoping for the quickest way to do this so that I can get a stir bar spinning. Thanks again!!

The quickest way to get rolling is to smash a hard drive and steal the magnet out of there. From smashing to spinning it took me a total of like five minutes.Sorry for not having a source for ya. I took the cheap and easy route.

Thanks Opr I understand what you mean. Well in my case smashing a computer would mean smashing the one I am on and that is not possible in this household. I don't have any junk harddrives laying around. I was just hoping to find a store I could go to and get a magnet instead of ordering one. I see plenty of online places, Amazon and such just hoping for a quick place to go. Thanks though of course too.

Well heck I think I just answered my own question. I just went to radio shack and bought the pieces for my stir plate today outside of a free cigar box and now I see they have magnets, looks like I will head back there tomorrow and get these and give em a try. Hmm why didn't I think of this while I was there earlier.Magnets

If you find the magnets are not strong enough for your application, you can stack them and make a magnet with twice the strength.zymot

Thanks Zymot for the suggestion. I will give that a try if a single stack does not cut it. I will pick up a couple packs of these just to make sure.
