Open the fermenter and add a used baby diaper to it, preferably one with a deuce in it. If that doesn't get some airlock activity going, nothing will.

If I have to wait a couple of hours for the baby to fill the diaper, will that be acceptable?

'OK, I did that. I'll keep my fingers crossed. This was and extract batch, and I used an aluminum pot, so it probably won't be that good anyway.

I'd recommend just sitting the little guy naked above the fermenter for best effect.

Why stop there? I have found its better to simply place the kid INSIDE the bucket, just like the picture on the side.....

Reread the guidlines. I think most judges expect specifics ie. Pampers or Snuggies

Definitely. After 2 weeks, the beer tastes a little pickle-y though. The kid is fine after 28 days or so.

When you recycle the CO2, you won't see any airlock activity.

There's your problem right there still using buckets as a primary fermenter. Go to the dark side....all-glass!!!

I actually went the other way. I started brewing with glass carboys, but a few years ago switched to plastic better bottles. I :) the better bottles with the valve at the bottom. No more siphoning, no more worrying if the glass wil break, no more lifting heavy carboys. Actually a lot less lifting all together. Heck, I now use buckets sometimes if my BBs are full. I will still use the glass if I'm doing a long term aging -- mostly because otherwise they sit empty.
