This one is interesting. The aroma is spicy hops mixed with tangy sourness, like an Orval without the funk. The flavor is along the same lines. There is an undercurrent of brett but mostly just sour with a great hop flavor. Very drinkable and refreshing. The sourness is moderate, somewhat less than fermented stomach acid but enough to get your attention. I really prefer this beer to this year's La Folie which just seems thin and lifeless for some reason (normally one of my favorite sour beers). BTW, it's pronounced lay tear-WAH.

Is this a small batch release or can I find it here in KS?

It's in the Lips of Faith series.

Biggest mistake they did was ditch the corks and go to crowns.Corkers have a mystic about them. Like aging wine.

Mystique but yeah I agree. I like doing my special Belgians with corks and cages when I can. Presentation does matter.

From what I have heard they are planning to go back to C&C bottles. I sure hope so La Follie has not tasted the same since they started to put it in bombers.

I agree that it tastes different but I can't imagine that it has anything to do with the bottles.

Maybe the cork tho. They do let in some o2 over time.

I believe the 22oz bottles are pasteurized where the 750ml bottles were not so the bugs could still work in the bottle. So that is the big difference. I was at NB in 2009 and had some La Folie when we were in the barrel room and was awesome.

I agree 100% that the recent La Folie is sub-par relative to the last 3-4 years. We're not the only ones that are saying this. I just can't attribute it to the bottle. NB claims that crown caps protect the beer better against O2. I could see that and they should be at least as good as corks (as Blktre points out). I'm also not buying the pasteurization theory because the new La Folie tastes thinner than the old when it should be the other way around. I think (hope at least) that it's just a one-year aberration in the profile of the bugs they use. Peter knows his sour beers so I have confidence that he'll get it worked out. Meanwhile, I'll be substituting Le Terroir for La Folie until next years batch comes out.

Damn right he does. Back to La Terroir, cannot wait to give that beer a try.

I was actually thinking the o2 through the cork might actually help the beer. When is La Terrior going to be released?

If they're done right, corks don't allow in any O2. I guess the fear is that if they dry out they could, hence the crown caps. I doubt anything good would come of allowing it to oxidize.

When is La Terrior going to be released?

I think that's Flying Dog. :D

Hmmm, Id think some o2 would help the bugs, maybe not.

Ha, good catch. Btw, Dustin can pretty much run everything at Boulevard. That is one tour you need to make a road trip for. An amazing place.

During fermentation sure. The pellicle will help protect the beer from oxidation. But after it's packaged, I'd think you'd want to prevent contact with oxygen in case there are not sufficient bugs to take up the O2 before oxidation can occur.

That sounds like a great idea.
