It has been over a year, but I just put the lid on a new batch! It is a quasi Hop Devil clone, and I felt a little rusty, but it was nice to get back to brewing.

The biggest PITA was finding a new LHBS. I think I may starting ordering offline just because of price point.

I have a lot of beer around my place and I am generally the only one that consumes it. Also, I am trying to get and stay in shape this summer, so I think my beer consumption is going to be minimal. I will probably be hitting the Crown water or Wild Turkey 101 water this summer to quench my thirst. while watching calories. With that said, I only have one brew planned for this year. Last fall while driving grain truck hauling sugar beets, I kept 15# of beets that are currently in my freezer. I plan to use the sugar beets in a brew. I don't think the beets will add much other than fermentable sugars, but it is more the idea of using beets since I was trucking them around for work. I have yet to decide on a recipe, possibly a cream ale.I might do a mead and wine this year instead of beer.Marmot

Do you ever buy American Crystal sugar? If so, think of me hauling sugar beets from the field to the yard.Sugar beets are pure white under the dirt and skin, not the ruby red beets that keep you regular.Marmot

Do the beets taste sweet in their raw state? I'm just curious what the natural sugar concentration is in them.

They do have a sweet taste to them. The sugar content on a good sugar beet is 17-20%.My dog and I used to play fetch with the stray beets at the farm yard. It was fun until he figured out they were edible and the sugar high kicked in for him. :rolf:Marmot

Just drive over east an hour and a half this fall and find out! Have you ever seen the piles they have over that way? Pretty crazy, and many people don't even realize a bunch of our sugar is made from them.

Welcome back to the fun and addiction. My buddy that brewed with me this past friday night. He taught me how to do all grain back in January 2008. Since then Friday was my 35th batch and his 3rd. It was fun. Hope your beer turns out great!

Just got back on the horse myself after a 10 month sabbatical. After one week of I have 10 gallons in primary and 10 gallons in secondary. Dang, it feels good to be back!

Congrats to those who recently re-started brewing. I've been brewing pretty regulalrly for the last 4 years or so. Before that, though, I would have periods where I wouldn't brew for a long time, probably about a year. I think switching to AG for some reason got me keeping a more regular brewing schedule.

I went through about 18 months where I didn't do any brewing. I was busy with work and some lifestyle changes around the house.Now, I brew about every couple of weeks while the cooler water permits.I might break out stuff today...

I brewed an American Wheat with some beets added to the mash almost 4 years ago. It came out quite tasty.
