I am about to find out. I am in the middle of my first lager right now, I chose a Schwarzbier as it is probably my favorite lager style. I mashed at 140 for 30 minutes then bumped to 150 for 60 minutes, total mash time of 90 minutes. I plan to ferment this at 50 for primary and as cold as possible for lagering.Type: All GrainDate: 2/16/2011 Batch Size: 5.50 galBrewer: Chris Cavanaugh Boil Size: 7.00 gal Boil Time: 60 min Ingredients Amount Item Type % or IBU 4.50 lb Munich Malt (8.0 SRM) Grain 51.40 % 4.00 lb Pilsner (1.8 SRM) Grain 45.69 % 0.26 lb Carafa III (525.0 SRM) Grain 2.91 % 0.40 oz Magnum [12.90 %] (60 min) Hops 19.2 IBU 0.30 oz Saaz [3.20 %] (60 min) Hops 3.6 IBU 0.50 oz Saaz [3.20 %] (30 min) Hops 4.6 IBU 0.50 oz Saaz [3.20 %] (5 min) Hops 1.2 IBU 1 Pkgs Bohemian Lager (Wyeast Labs #2124) Yeast-Lager Beer Profile Est Original Gravity: 1.048 SGEst Final Gravity: 1.014 SG Estimated Alcohol by Vol: 4.52 % Bitterness: 28.5 IBU Est Color: 17.2 SRM

Well overshot my gravity pretty badly, was 1.058. So makes the IBU's 26.5.

yeah I designed the recipe for 75% although I'm typically around 82-83%. I hit 90% apparently as I collected almost 6 gallons of wort as well. I am not complaining however, I will take it.

yeah - I don't think the beer will suffer for it. I like the sound of the recipe. Seems kind of like a dunkel lite™ (never really noticed this style before).

Try Krusovice Cerne it's pretty widely available, and at around 2.30 a 500ml it's also a good price. It's a very good beer as is the Monschoff Schwarz which while a little more expensive also comes in a nice flip-top bottle.

I think I've seen this before and bought some for my brother. I didn't try it though.
