Has anyone had it yet? I have a bottle sitting in my fridge and I am waiting for a good day to crack it. Not many cases made it to CO and we're having issues with our distributor so I couldn't get my store a case. However my SN rep was nice enough to bring me over a bottle. He told me they did a taste test between it and Younger and that 8 out of 10 picked Hoptimum...but that what a rep is supposed to do...

I've never had Pliney because we don't get it here, but I did try Hoptimum last weekend. I would say that you should drink it when you get the chance. It was really good, but nothing spectacular. I remember it had an aroma kind of like Celebration, which is good, but for an Imperial IPA I kind of expected more. Same with the flavor.I will say they won points for being really drinkable. At about 10%, it was really strong, but drank like a much smaller beer. I really didn't even notice an aroma of booze until I got to the end of the bottle and it warmed up.Pretty solid IIPA but as far as IIPA goes, I would rather have a Maharaja.Edit: Of course, No disrespect meant to anyone who loves this brew.

Hoptimum was one of those beers that made me sit back in my bar stool and contemplate the universe for a moment. It was THAT good. I like my hoppy beers and drink them regularly. Pliny is in no shortage around here amongst other legendary hop bombs. Still, Hoptimum stood out. Way out. It's no secret that Sierra Nevada knows how to brew damn good beer and are not afraid to use their hops, but this beer really sets a new standard for them. First, it's hoppy. Not bitter, very smooth actually, it is dripping with this resinous nectar-y hop goodness. Seriously, words can't describe. Behind that hop-slap to the face is an amazingly well made beer. A deceivingly strong 10% beer, brewed very dry and golden for the style. Just how I like em'. Do yourself a favor and buy EVERY BOTTLE you see!I will say however, don't age this beer. Just drink it! While it has the alcohol to hold up in the cellar, the star of this show is the hops. Don't let them fade!

Hoptimum is all that! I have to admit that I think Pliny beats it by a smidge, but it's a great beer if you're a hophead like me.

Well, I'm wondering if I either got a bad bottle or if I just have really high standards. It is a great beer, especially for the price, but I didn't think it was really that hoppy of an IIPA....Am I missing something?

Yes. Opening one of them is like drawing a razor across an ounce of vacuum sealed pellet hops and taking a whiff.

Kinda like the time I had Hopsickle. Even after I finished the beer, the empty glass still smelled like opening a bag of hops!I've not broken into my Hoptimum yet. I had a Hop Stoopid last night, followed up by a 90 Minute IPA. After the Hop Stoopid, I didn't find the 90 Min to have much hop character. Seemed more like a strong/stock ale or something.

Damn, I saw a bottle when I was in Grand Junction the other day. It didn't dawn on me to buy one.
