Really spice one of them up with a Belgian strain. So we are going to Reno to visit some family... as I said in another thread, the cousin doesn't get much time what with 1 year old twin boys and a 7 year old. Here's what I'm throwing together. 6.5 pounds of Pilsner LME 1/4 pound of Crystal 10L lightly hopped with whatever I've got in the freezer (probably cascade or something) 5 gallons split between two Mr. Beer fermenters. Pitch one with Nottingham and the other with SafLager. Thoughts? Comments??? What the hell am I making?

Time constraints and desire for simplicity require dry yeast!Really spice one of them up with a Belgian strain.

I think you are right... going to take plenty of non-descript hops from my dad's garden. He just "threw em all together" in a ziploc, so not really sure what it is but is smells great.I will argue for some late hops.

I'd say they are both some kind of american amber lager where one is a faux-lager. If you ferment the nottingham cold it would be interesting to see how close they are.So we are going to Reno to visit some family... as I said in another thread, the cousin doesn't get much time what with 1 year old twin boys and a 7 year old. Thats funny because when I put it through BeerSmith last night and had to pick a style, I went ahead and picked Blonde Ale.the nottingham version is very close to the blonde ale that i make.

Amber??? The projected SRM on this thing is very low. I'll have to make sure he hangs onto a couple bottles for when we visit in the summer.I'd say they are both some kind of american amber lager where one is a faux-lager. yeah, it should fall right into the style guidelines. i usually do 2/3 oz cascade for 60 and 1/3 oz for 5, or 1oz, 1 oz with a late extract addition (remove the kettle from the flame while adding extract) to help keep the srm low and extract twang to a minimum due to scorching / excess caramelization.Thats funny because when I put it through BeerSmith last night and had to pick a style, I went ahead and picked Blonde Ale.

Its probably in a can tooThats a very intersting point you make there Blktre... I'll have to... oh wait... I didn't buy DME... I bought LME!
On an unrelated note, I want to buy a pressure canner so that I can mash and can my own starters. The DME at the shop is just too damn expensive when I've got over 100 pounds of bulk grain at the house.

Blond ale works too. I thought cream ale if you get some dms from using almost all pilsner malt extract. You won't know for sure until its done.Thats funny because when I put it through BeerSmith last night and had to pick a style, I went ahead and picked Blonde Ale.

The lids are "vented" and there's enough headspace. Oh... and when I looked in the bag, the LHBS ended up giving me Coopers instead. No biggie. So one fermenter is going with Coopers inside the house and the other is in the nice cold Reno garage with Saflager.Sounds awesome. I would think Notty would cause a Mr. Beer to explode
Is there some kinda blow off on those?
