The last time I had Fat Tire was in 2002 in Cave Creek Arizona on tap at a resort.New Belgium Brewery has found distributorship in Georgia and I picked up a couple of 750 ml bottles. The bottles have a special label for the state of Georgia stating that this is the first legal release of Fat Tire in the state.Pours out bright with a nice white head and lots of carbonation. The aroma is of biscuit malt and not much else. Hops are very subtile and the beer itself is dryish. The overall impression is, while a nice beer, I would not go out of my way for it or pay a premium for it.

We just got it in NC a few month ago with a special label as well. I also just found it on tap in a local bar. ;) Just plain awesomeness in my opinion!

Sorry but I think Fat Tire is overhyped for what it is. To me it was sorta tasteless. No bitterness and little flavor. Maybe I had higher hopes than I should have but when I tried it for the first time when it got here to NC I was disappointed.

+1We've had it in NE for longer than I've been drinking, but I feel the same way. I think people with very underdeveloped palates popularize it and hype it up, and then when people that have experienced finer beers try it they are disappointed. I feel the same way about Boulevard Wheat, and Bell's Oberon.

I'm in California this week, & we picked up a 12'ver of Fat Tire. Not the same beer as I remember it. Didn't get the breadieness, and malt. Just another amber ale.

I like Fat Tire, but it seems to vary from batch to batch. Sometimes its as biscuity as ever, sometimes not so much. Not sure if its a QC issue, or just my palate.

I had the beer 4 years ago while in Texas. I'd totally agree with this rating. It was a decent beer, but nothing to go out of your way for.

Could it be a freshness issue maybe?

It doesnt sit around in my house for too long. If its a freshness issue, its before it gets here. :)

Yes, that's what I meant. I doubt a big brewery like New Belgium allows significant variation in their flagship product from batch to batch.

Fat Tire, to me, is just plain nasty. I have no idea how that can be a flagship product.Just one opinion.MolBasser

there was a time it was my favorite commercial beer, but either it changed, or I did, and now it just tastes well, boring

I had one last week, because of this topic. It was *meh* - so I will put it back on the "if there's nothing better" list.

+1better than BMC, but not worth paying a premium for, it is better on tap than in a bottle as usual

+1 really it's just a beer novelty in VA since we have to go to NC to buy it. I agree, for what it means to be it's rather tasteless.

I think New Belgium deserves a lot of respect for creating a beer that is so distinct. As time goes on, it becomes almost impossible to create a beer that is distinctly different than others because everything has been done already. Granted, using a lot of biscuit malt isn't the most genius idea I've ever seen, but they did it before somebody else did.Besides that, I like the flavor. It's full-bodied, but not so strong that you don't want to drink a couple of them.I give it a 5 out of 5.

The aroma is very of putting to me.However......In the can, it is a very different beer, and is actually quite palatable.I don't understand the difference, but it is a consistent opinion of the beer folk I know. They are a cool company, although a major competitor.MolBasser
