I hope your basement is VERY well ventilated if you are planning on brewing down there... PBW wise, you can add less but let it sit longer. I generally do that since I'm cheap.I got some kegles that I bought years ago and never did clean them proper to use them. At my new place I have an unfinished basement with hot water hookup right next to a floor drain, so thill will be easy peasy. 15 gallons is a lot of volume thoug. It says to use 1-2 oz per gallon... I only have a 1lb tub of PBW??? Should I seriously dump this entire tub of PBW into this keggle? Or what do you guys recommend for a dosage? Tell me in tbsp what you would do. Thx.

I'm brewing outside.. This is just the maintenance area. What would you say then maybe a TBSP/gallon? Or 1 TBSP per 2 gallons? Where is the limit where I'm getting so cheap on it that it's not even effective anymore, and it's a waste? I haven't really expiremented with using less, so I am not sure.I hope your basement is VERY well ventilated if you are planning on brewing down there... thats not a bad idea. I have allready filled all 3 with 15 gal of water though, and I put just about 9.5tbsp in each keggle. not real tbsp either.. but like the kind of tbsp you eat with. this should so a decent job i would think. it only used up about 1/3 of the tub. I'll try this and then go from there.I figure just let it sit for a couple of hours. no point once the water cools down IIRC and I haven't been able to get lids that fit these properly yet. (I havent looked that hard in a long time TBH)maybe you don't need to fill the entire 15 gallons. Put about a gallon of strong solution in there and lay it on its side and move if from time to time to let different sections get wet.

...or Sun Oxygen Cleaner at WALMART. Even cheaper.Go cheap man. Grab a big tub of Oxyclean at Walmart, just make sure it is the non-chlorine one and you'll be good to go. I was skeptical at first about Oxy, but it cleans my kegs nicely I must say.And at like 9.00 a tub the price is right too compared to the price of PBW. Is PBW better, yes. But the price difference makes Oxy just as good.

I was going to suggest getting a tub of the off brand stuff for like $4 at Big Lots. OxyFree is awesome. After a few brews, I will put 2 or 3 scoops in and fill up the keggle and let it sit for several days. Comes out freaking clean as a whistle! Almost to the point where I feel bad about brewing anything in it.Go cheap man. Grab a big tub of Oxyclean at Walmart, just make sure it is the non-chlorine one and you'll be good to go. Hey, that is a really good idea. That will save me on my cornies too. Just need to find something that will fill up most of the empty airspace to get the liquid to touch the surfaces.too late, but I had another idea. You just need something to take up most of the space in the keggle. Use a couple gallons of PBW and use anything like water filled milk containers, etc to take up the middle space that doesn't need to be cleaned. Kinda like the same idea of sticking a brink in your toilet tank to use less water.

ya, that is a great idea! Next time I'll put a cornie inside of my keggle, and lean the outside of my cornie and inside of my keggle at the same time.Hey, that is a really good idea. Why pay for the scent crystals when you don't need them? JK... some guys (points at self) are suspicious about having the scent crystals in the brewhouse. I can get the "off brand" variety in a large amount for very cheap at Big Lots.BTW... who gave Hiller the -1's? Please respect that Hiller is no longer a member of the PH and that kind of response is not necessary to a legitimate question about brewing process. I balanced them out.You don't need oxyfree...the regular stuff works great

same here with the free...but, then again, i use free everything. if i want something scented, i will add my own scent to it.i also agree about the hiller part.JK... some guys (points at self) are suspicious about having the scent crystals in the brewhouse.
