Found this brew at a little upscale market outside my hotel in Aberdeen. I bought this one, along with sever other Scottish ales. This one was the best IMO. Really nice malt flavor. Lots of caramel. The hop aroma is very earthy, but subtle. No hop flavor to speak of, but a nice background hop bitterness to reign in the malt. Quite a nice brew. Surprisingly, most of the others I had were way overcarbonated. Maybe it's a bottling thing, but the acidic bite from the carbonation really killed a few of them for me.I liked their website, too, it's kind of funny. It must be fairly lightly distributed, I can't even find a review of any of their beers on beer advocate. :D

80/- is a very nice style. Unfortunately my own is the only one I've ever really liked. Can you get this one in the states?

I doubt it. I haven't seen many scottish ales in the US at all. A couple of the ones I had listed US distributors on the bottle, so you must be able to get them somewhere.

I don't know if any of the belhavens are 80/- but those aren't bad. on tap it's very nice but out of the bottle I find them pretty meh.

Yeah, belhaven makes an 80/-, but I don't recall having seen it in the US. I usually see their St. Andrews Ale.

usually it just says "scottish ale". I've also had an IPA and a stout by them.

Yeah, I've seen that. I don't think it's 80 shilling.
