Just weighed out the hops for my Pliny clone. 1,195 grams of lupulinity. :blush:P.S. That's 42.15 ounces for you metric-phobes.

Planning for 13 gallon post boil volume, I added a gallon over my usual due to expected hop absorption....and I think it's called a KiloIPA.

It's the last 0.15 oz. that make it worth brewing.

A gallon might not be enough. I used about 2# a couple years ago, including dry hopping, for a Pliny clone. Mostly high alpha hops. I ended up short on volume even with a larger boil than usual. Well worth the effort though...

I'm limited by system size. I pushed it as far as I can go. I usually end up with extra in the fermenter even without the extra gallon. I'm not going to be too upset if I only end up with 9 gallons.

My last PTE clone was 2.5lbs for a 6 gallon batch. The keg was foaming green hop juice from my cramming dry hops in. Hop yum

I have a recipe from Vinnie that's sort of a descendant of Pliny. He calls it Hop Hammer. I'm planning to make it sometime this fall. It'll be about a pound of hops including the dry hops. Strangebrewer and I split a big hop order a while back and this is going to tear into that in a big way but that's ok. This year's crop will be coming out before long.

I ended up with ~13g in the kettle (after fighting boilovers most of the brew) and 12g in the fermenter. I left a decent chunk of hops in the kettle and then I let things settle in the conical for about a half an hour and dumped about a gallon of hop sludge until it ran 'clear'. I think I got pretty much all the heavy stuff out of there and still ended up with 11+ gallons in the fermenter (which took off like a rocket).
