Started off with putting a liquid QD whose top wasn't tightened on the keg. The kicker, though, was that I had already released the pressure in the keg so no beer came out when I connected it. I closed the door to the chest freezer THEN turned the gas back on. I'm sitting there wondering why I'm not getting beer out of the picnic tap, all the while beer is spewing out of the disconnect into the chest freezer. :cheers:Then when I was switching over between two beers I managed to knock a 22oz'er off the table onto the concrete floor. ;) :P

Sessions like that will drive a man to drink beer.

GEEZ!!! This just keep getting better and better. I went down into the basement to pack up my beers for the competition and it smelled a little more beery than usual while walking down the stairs. I turned the corner and saw beer all around the base of the chest freezer. Immediately I started thinking a keg emptied itself and started seeping out of the CF. Then I got closer and realized one of my bottles of Rauch that was sitting on the table next to the CF had exploded. WTF? I got my leather gloves and safety glasses on and put the remaining two in a cooler. I think I might just give the cooler a good kick to take care of the other two bottle bombs. That Rauch must not have finished. There's no way the carb level in it would've been enough to pop the bottle.

+1. What a crappy chain of events for sure. Hope the luck switches over soon. Spilled beer is not cool. Hope you can throw a few back of course too.

We've all had days like this. I find it helps to take a moment and relax and kind of reset your brain. If I just keep going it gets worse and worse.

I don't know what the heck is happening. I found another 22oz of APA that had popped, It wasn't obvious because the bottle didn't shatter, it looked like a whole bottle until I tried to pick it up and only ended up with the neck. The problem is I can't tell if it was caused by shrapnel from the Rauch or this one went on it's own, it was about 18" from the Rauch, but in direct line of sight. I noticed few of the beers (including the Rauch) had distended bottle caps, so now I'm thinking I have a bunch of bottle bombs. But these are carbed as I normally do, ~2.3-2.5 volumes and they probably have a lower carb level than the last batch I bottled because I figured out that my low pressure gauge was reading low and I replaced it with a new one (before replacing the gauge the beers were clearly overcarbed, IMO). I can understand the Rauch exploding because it finished really high (1.021) after a messed up fermentation (lost temp control, ferm temp got up to 76). I can see how the yeast might pick up again after being cold for a while then warming up. The APA, I don't see how that would be possible. It finished super low (1.010) and I gelled the crap out of it. The beer is crystal clear, whereas the Rauch still has a lot of stuff in suspension. So anyway, I sequestered the bottles with the distended caps (which seemed to be at random). I decided to open one to see if I got a gusher or something that would tell me to be worried. Nope. Even at room temperature the APA poured nicely and doesn't seem overly gassy (anyone who has had room temp BMC know what I means by overly gassy).I'm stumped. My best guess is that the Rauch picked up fermentation again, exploded and took out the APA. Based on where the bottle of APA is carbonation-wise, it's really hard to believe one of these blew up on carbonation pressure alone.Gah.P.S. BTW that last batch of overcarbed bottles mostly went out to friends and one of the 12-pks sat in the back of my car for the day when it was 90+ outside, I protected them as well as I could, but they were noticeably warm at the end of the day. No problems.
