I got a free 10 gallon Igloo cooler from donating platelets and want to use it for a mash tun. I see a number of websites have the complete conversion kit (just unscrew the standard spigot) but most say for Rubbermaid. From pictures the Rubbermaid and Igloo look identical. Anyone out there have an Igloo and used one of these conversion kits? I asked the question on the seller's website and have not heard back yet.

No idea on the coolers but why not just build your own? You can buy pretty much everything you need at the hardware store.

Because I'm hoping to have a proven method so I don't need to worry about leaks, etc. Plan B will be to go to the hardware store and give it a try.

if you can get a look at the other cooler somewhere such as HD or Lowes etc.. you should be able to tell if they are identical enough

I did searches on Igloo cooler mash tuns and only find hits on the cube. I actually already have a cube mash tun and am looking to convert the 10 gallon round to use a false bottom that I already own. I finally found a mention from someone that an Igloo has a flush face where the valve goes and the Rubbermaid is partially recessed. This should make the Igloo easier to convert if correct. Now I know what to look for, now all I need is to find a store with the 10 gallon Rubbermaids to have a closer look.

Any type of bulkhead fitting will work. Just need a red rubber or neoprene washer on the interior for sealing.

BTW, even with the "kit" on a rubbermaid you're still gonna need to worry about leaks.

that's one of the reasons I really like my coleman xtreme™. it already had a rubber gasket I could reuse so it sealed up really nice. it's also so large I'll never have a problem fitting all of my mash in it.

thanks for this... that is actually the reason I started to post. I read some reviews and there were complaints about leaks and I assumed that maybe it was an Igloo that was leaking. I guess it looks like I need to find time this week for a trip to the hardware store.

yeah - it's not really the bulkhead and associate hardware that is usually the problem I think. It's the interface between that hardware and the cooler and making sure it seals up nicely.
