So I have a small slurry of 1056 that's been in my fridge in a mason jar for almost four months. Thinking about throwing it in a starter and seeing if it comes alive. Anyone have any predictions or experiences? Have I basically been harvesting 1056?

Go for it, I'm sure it will be fine.

I'd make a starter and use it.

I've heard of people taking really old yeast and tossing it into the boil for yeast nutrients. Is there anything to this?

If you are a making a starter you got nothing to lose. Give it a try, I would bet you will be alright too.

You'll be fine provided you make a starter. I made a starter with 5+month old slurry for my last batch. Took right off fine.

I just brewed an APA last night with 1272 and have some left over which I think I will let go dormant with an airlock in the fridge and then bottle/cap for future use. I like this harvesting yeast stuff...definetely saves you money when it comes to liquid yeast.
