We've been hard at work for the last few months on getting this law changed. We've got an organizing committee, a couple state legislators on board, and already have draft language for legislation. The good news is that the OLCC seems to fully support getting the law changed.

"The issue has to do with the judging," Bradley said Monday. "Judges are considered the public, and we cannot have the public tasting amateur wine or beer."

 Seriously?

Reading that article it wouldn't just be the state fair but every comp in OR. Also what does this mean for HB meetings that are not held in someone's home.

It means that meetings in pubs, like our club does, are technically illegal. Also, since the transportation of homebrew is technically illegal, even if you had the meetings at someone's home the club members couldn't bring homebrew. The whole issue began when the host of a long time comp., which is help at his brewpub, contacted the OLCC as a courtesy to let them know the comp. had been held there, as it had for years.

I don't think we need a ruling from Basser on whether this is lame. The law does need to be amended, but I would be shocked if Oregon couldn't do it within the first month of the legislative session. There is a very strong Beer and Wine industry up there. It'll get done. The question is whether anyone would have been an ass at the competition and actually shut it down once it was underway. As for club competitions... I would think a private club would not qualify as "public". Location has everything to do with it I suppose.
