Anyone ever hear of "caramalt"? It's in the Cutthroat Porter recipe I'll be making this weekend. 8 oz of it for 5 gals. The owner of the brew shop said "that's what some people call carapils" so I just got some carapils. Is that accurate? I've never heard of caramalt.

It's a very pale crystal. I don't think Carapils would be a good sub. Maybe something like CaraHell or honey malt?

Damnit... I suspected that. Oh well, I dont have to make the exact recipe. There's plenty of chocolate and RB in the recipe for color.

The only things I can find on the web are Simpsons Caramalt which is 30-37L (according to northern brewer) and Muntons Caramalt flour. So even carahell would be too light it seems. From Simpsons website: 25-35L.I'm just gonna use the carapils unless the dog steals it like last time I had carapils around.

from the description at least Mtn may be correct in suggesting honey malt.
