So I'm driving home from work tonight thinking I need to refresh my bottled beer supply at home. I've only got five kegs in waiting with two on tap already so it's not like I'm dying of thirst or anything. But at the same time, I've got to get home because the my mother-in-law is coming over for dinner and I've got to get the grill started. Then I started to weigh my options, spend time with my mother-in-law or stop and see what's new this week at The Wine & Cheese Place (my go to place in STL for craft beer)...obviously, I choose the latter. So there I stand in beer heaven salavating over my choices when I look to my left and it's Mike "Tasty" McDole! The only thing I could blurt was "TASTY....what's up guy?!", like he was a long lost buddy or something. I tell ya the guy couldn't have been nicer! He shook my hand before I could utter anything else and said "Hey Chad, good to meet you, what's good here?!" I steer him towards to the Schlafly AIPA and the Boulevard Tank 7 (since he mentioned he was looking for a Saison). Anyway, we chatted homebrew and St. Louis beer for awhile. He wanted to know all about my homebrew and my recipes...which was really cool! I had some good one on one "Tasty" time for about 15 minutes to talk beer, homebrew, and The BN....Great guy that Mike "Tasty" McDole is, I tell ya! Glad I pulled in to get beer tonight! And as Andy Garcia's character in Ocean's 11 says...."Of all the gin joints in the world!".... I run into a homebrew king! Booyah!!!!Chad

Dude, that is awesome. You know, I have had email conversations with Ray Daniels, Greg Noonan, Chris White, etc. and it's so cool that our "rock stars" are so accessible and giving of their time. But running into Mike McDole at the local bottle shop? That's a winner right there, Amigo! Cheers.Ps. Did you get a picture with him for proof? :P

WOW! I think I would have been in shock. I always tell friends about listening to him on the BN, I'm like, "he was in the longshot six-pack!" Everyone gets an idea of how famous he is to brewer nerds then!

This is kinda weird to say, but.....As someone who's sometimes referred to as a "homebrew rock star", I've gotta say that we're all just normal homebrew lovin' guys. Tasty, Jamil, John, Randy, Ray, so many others....there's nothing special about any of us. We love to brew, we love to talk about brewing, we love to drink beer, pretty much just like every other person on this forum. And I think I speak for all the "homebrew rock stars" when we say that we're all proud and honored that we've been able to help others make homebrew maybe better than they would have otherwise. But to paraphrase Red Green "we're all in this together." Homebrewers are a great bunch of people.

Well said Denny. I agree completely. I'm a homebrewing enthusiast who enjoys talking to other homebrewers about their brewing. Those of you like Chad that I'm fortunate enough to meet, quickly realize I'm genuinely interested in your brewing world. I feel I have an immediate connection with anyone who's ever enjoyed the pure pleasure of making and enjoying their own beer. I sort of laughed at myself while I was talking to Chad. I was already late getting to the airport to pick up my son and really needed to make a quick stop but I couldn't keep myself from spending some time to ask Chad about his brewing. We had a really nice conversation. I was impressed that he was running 5 homebrew taps and was re-stocking his cellar with commercial beer. I can definitely relate to that.So you see, I'm no rock star. For me, the homebrewers I meet are the rock stars.Tasty

Denny & Mike: You guys are being humble and modest and that's one reason why it's cool. I went to Vermont with my wife and we ended up at Greg Noonan's place. He was there having his dinner and I asked the bartender about him. A little while later the bartender came over and said, "Greg will be over to talk with you in just a few minutes" and I got all nervous and giddy like a trekkie about to meet Leonard Nimoy or something. As homebrewers, it's so much fun to meet someone who is well-known for being in this great hobby.A draft... for all my friends! :D

See Ken...here's my proof! :stabby: Thanks to Mike and all the other "homebrew rock stars" who take a few minutes to stop and talk beer with us. And while I'm at it...thanks to everyone on this board for taking the time to stop and help me/everyone else out! Now everyone together...raise whatever you have in your hand to toast and sing Koombahya!!!
