I put together this recipe with some inspiration on the grain bill and the hopping schedule from the JPA. I am wondering what some opinions would be on how this grain bill would make for an IPA. I also was planning to dump this on top of a yeast cake of 2112 that is fermenting a Cal Common currently. I was hoping for feedback too on the use of this yeast for this beer style. I don't have plans to lager this being an IPA but thought this yeast could ferment it well at 64-68 degrees. Appreciate the feedback. As I type this, I am drinking my latest JPA.Grain bill looks good to me. Pale and Vienna malt dominate. You could bump up the crystal to 60L or so, 10L is fine too. Moderate amount of special roast - good. Wheat and Carapils for texture and head retention. For the hops, I would bump up the Amarillo to min 0.50 oz for the FWH. Let it stand up to the Columbus. Plus I like the Amarillo.I am of the opinion that the magic of the JPA is the use of noble hops (original JPA uses northern brewer) in the 60 minute addition. If you have access to any of the spicy noble hops, a substitution night be the way to go. Nothing wrong with the Columbus, but you will brew an American version of a British IPA, not a JPA. If that is what you are looking for, you have a nice recipe.2 oz of dry hop Columbus for 10 days seems like a hefty dry hop to me. 1 oz for 7 days is a good amount. If you have some history to inspire you to do this, go for it. (I am not a fan of the dry hop, so take my comment with a grain of salt) The 2112 Cal Common yeast should make for a nice IPA. I have used steam yeast for all kinds of beer and always been happy with the results. It will stand up to your OG without hesitation.zymot

Thanks Zymot. I like your suggestions for this recipe and will probably darken it a tinge. I am looking forward to brewing this one. Probably this coming weekend.
