I store my grain in the HD buckets. They probably aren't exactly food safe but I'm not super concerned. However, if I could just line the bucket with some kind of food safe bag that would pretty much make it a non-issue. Is there anything cheap and readily available out there? I've heard garbage bags aren't food safe although I've used those in the past.

I'm not sure I'd bother. It's not like you're heating the bucket or that the grains are wet. Besides, you'd be changing one non-food safe container for another. Has an issue arisen?(oh, BTW, how are your hops going? 4 of mine are 20+ft, 2 have cones already)

Maybe those giant ZipLoc bags??I'm not sure if they are food safe or not. On the box, they show them being used for non-food items, but they are ZipLoc after all

How about turkey roasting bags from the supermarket? They're tough, food safe and fairly large (but maybe not big enough). I've never tried storing grains in them but I use them as waterproof storage bags for backpacking.

I don't know what a HD bucket is. They're big enough to hold a large turkey with the end closed off with a zip tie. They'd probably fit in a 5 gallon bucket just about perfectly.

I think it'd fit. Worth a try at least.

I store grain in HD buckets too, I don't worry about it.

a 50# sack is WAY more than will fit into a 5-gallon bucket. How did you get it all to fit into a 5-gal corny?

good point - I can sometimes barely fit a 55lb sack into 2 5 gallon buckets but usually there is a little bit of overflow.

I just leave mine in the bags and put the bags in big Rubbermaid containers. Containers stack well, and the bags when twisted and rubberbanded shut don't spill.

Be careful with this method. I had at least one sack I opened last night where the plastic liner was torn.
