I've had that smoked beer, IIRC it was wayyyy overpowering and tasted like liquid bacon.

I liked how they were talking about the Reinheitsgebot with reference to a beer with wheat in it and saying how only barley is allowed.

The format seems new to me but maybe I'm wrong on that.

IIRC it's more of a pheasant jerky kind of flavour......

I didn't think the battle was that great and the beer knowledge sucked, but I like Iron Chef, and the secret ingredient was beer.I think it is old. A guy on another forum pointed it out to me. I never saw it on the tube.MolBasser

speaking of tv beer etc..last night's Jeopardy had a Beer round, i swept the category, lol, but I have to take issue with one one detailin the answer they stated that Ale was the "darker" of the 2 main types of beers :frank: the other being lager, lol

You mean you would say "Suck it Trebek!" I always wonder how many subjects I think I know about based on my general knowledge only to find out I'm the equivilent of those that think they know beer.

I've been avoiding posting in this thread because where I wanted to go was down the "what would you have done" route. I thought that might interfere with the "chef" thing over in the PH, but now I think its a legitimate question. I believe that they are given some "advance" notice of what is going on so that they can prepare a few things in adavance. What are some of the dishes that you would have made?

I think alton brown is generally better than most. He at least attempts to back his shit up with science and/or facts.

That is also the one episode where he doesn't explicitly say that working with <enter name of food ingredient> is good eats... he merely says something like "is it good eats? I'll let you decide" at which point he takes a sip of his brew and winces. I'm guessing he's not a beer drinker, but someone on his staff is and thought it would make for a good episode. If I do a search for a recipe and AB is one of the ones listed, I gravitate towards his because I've made enough to know that he does a good job of getting it down.

oh yeah - he wad def doing some stuff wrong there but in the end he could have ended up with something at least somewhat drinkable. Probably better than Mr. Beer anyway.

I noticed that as well. I think I've seen him drink beer in other episodes and he seems to handle it just fine. Maybe he made some nasty stuff.
