Heads Up! Metric Units Only.

yeah - that would be a pretty easy feature to add in and a good idea since I think most of us American types are using lbs, F, gallons, quarts, etc. for the majority of our measurements.

I got this as a reply yesterday regarding Fahrenheit, so I'm sure he would consider adding US units.

You should probably mention what you are coding the app in. I've gotten lazy and just use Matlab for everything now

Hey Rob,I have to say, when you first introduced this program I was really excited to see it done with American units. I consider myself an educated person and I see the value of metric, but in my mind my default is always American units. I saw you posted the new version of BrewMate and I've been tinkering around with it for a little bit. I have noticed a few things that I dislike about the program. First, I really like that it produces a forum friendly format. That is a great idea! What I don't like is that when I go to create the forum friendly export, it alphabetically rearranges my hop additions. Granted, the FWH and boil additions are where they should be, but any additions after the boil are changed. I made a Cascadian Dark Ale 2 days ago that will require two dry hop additions. I'm not sure how to make the program do this. Also, it rearranged my zero minute, aroma additions (that I labeled as "aroma") and mixed it in with the dry hops. Also, I find it difficult to read the final export. I'm not sure what the grain percentages would equal in weight (though I have a vague idea), and the hops are too rounded when read in oz/gal. This my be a setting that I have to change. Over all, this is a pretty successful program that I am going to continue to mess around with. Thanks for producing a great resource and I hope you find my comments useful in the future. I will also attach the recipe I was working on so you can see it.Thanks!Cascadian Dark Ale (Specialty Beer)Original Gravity (OG): 1.084 (°P): 20.2Colour (SRM): 50.5 (EBC): 99.5Bitterness (IBU): 182.8 (Rager)57.97% Pilsner17.39% Pale Ale Malt5.8% Carafa II malt5.8% Munich II5.8% Wheat Malt4.35% Carapils (Dextrine)2.9% Caravienna0.1 oz/Gal Chinook (11.4% Alpha) @ 90 Minutes (First Wort)0.2 oz/Gal Columbus (12% Alpha) @ 90 Minutes (First Wort)0.2 oz/Gal Chinook (11.4% Alpha) @ 60 Minutes (Boil)0.1 oz/Gal Columbus (12% Alpha) @ 20 Minutes (Boil)0.1 oz/Gal Pacific Jade (13.3% Alpha) @ 20 Minutes (Boil)0.1 oz/Gal Simcoe (12.2% Alpha) @ 20 Minutes (Boil)0.1 oz/Gal Amarillo (8.6% Alpha) @ 0 Minutes (Aroma)0.2 oz/Gal Cascade (7.8% Alpha) @ 0 Minutes (Dry Hop)0.2 oz/Gal Citra (11.1% Alpha) @ 0 Minutes (Aroma)0.1 oz/Gal Columbus (14.2% Alpha) @ 0 Minutes (Aroma)0.2 oz/Gal Columbus (14.2% Alpha) @ 0 Minutes (Dry Hop)0.1 oz/Gal Columbus (14.2% Alpha) @ 0 Minutes (Dry Hop)0.2 oz/Gal Simcoe (12.2% Alpha) @ 0 Minutes (Dry Hop)0.2 oz/Gal Simcoe (12.2% Alpha) @ 0 Minutes (Dry Hop)0.2 oz/Gal Simcoe (12.2% Alpha) @ 0 Minutes (Aroma)Single step Infusion at 151°F for 60 Minutes. The best I found, so far, is Qbrew. It looks like they have it for Mac as well as Linux.

what software do you regularly use?

I have an Excel Spreadsheet that I use for all my brewing stuff. It's really convenient because I can use it on practically any computer without having to install programs since I keep it on my flash drive keychain. I didn't make it, but I can't remember where I got it...

Hey Jay,Appreciate all the feedback, It has been really helpful - I Cannot agree more sorting like that was an oversite on my part, I have fixed this and uploaded it to the website so for you wanted to give it another try! Also "Cascadian Dark Ale" is now in the drop down list for Styles :)

Also, I find it difficult to read the final export. I'm not sure what the grain percentages would equal in weight (though I have a vague idea), and the hops are too rounded when read in oz/gal. This my be a setting that I have to change.

I understand what you are getting at, luckily there is a "Normal" text export, which is in the more traditional format you'd be used to seeing. The idea behind the "Forum Friendly" text export is so that someone else can plug your recipe into their software with their batch size, efficiency etc...I must admit it's alot more elegant when using metric measurements :smilielol:I find it quite easy to eye ball a recipe in this manner and can work out quick enough if it is something i'd be interested in brewing or not.

Over all, this is a pretty successful program that I am going to continue to mess around with. Thanks for producing a great resource and I hope you find my comments useful in the future.

Yes very helpful, your feedback has helped the program growCheers Rob.
