Heading up to the US on Saturday for work for a week.Have four days in LA (Downtown LA Live), then three days in Redmond WA.Searching through Brewboard, Beer Advocate Beerfly, and Rate Beer shows these cities as being slightly in the backwater of craft beer (compared to my usual jaunts to San Fran and San Diego).I won't have transport, so any recommendations for downtown LA and Redmond that are within a reasonable cab distance ?Would love to hitup Naja's Place for the 2nd Annual Double IPA fest, but the distance appears to be a limiting factor.TIA,Doc

Mac & Jacks in Redmond - great little brewery and the African Amber has a cult following. 30-60 minutes and $3.00 on mass transit will get you to Seattle. Once in Seattle their is a whole bunch of good beer to be had, and public transit is simple to use. Sound Transit has a trip planner on their website, so it will be easy to get to Seattle if you want to. If you send me a PM with your email address I have a PDF of all the good bars and breweries in the Greater Seattle area that may help you out.

I wouldn't sell the LA beer scene too short. I travel to the north of LA (Agoura Hills and Thousand Oaks) a lot for work, and I would rate the beer scene there as among the top suburban beer scenes I've observed. Ladyface has some fantastic Belgians on tap, and even chains like BJs have some surprises (like Pilsner Urquell from a keg, which is much better than PU in the green bottles).I don't know much about the downtown beer scene. I've been to a decent beer bar downtown, but I have no recollection of the name.

Hey Doc, I actually live in Redmond. What are you gonna be up here for and where are you staying? If you are here on a Sunday I would definitely recommend the Mac and Jack's brewery 'tour'. Other than that there isn't much going on... you could take a cab up to Redhook, or a bus out to Seattle as was mentioned previously. You can PM me too if you'd like to chat more about the area; maybe I can buy you a beer

Go to Seattle and hit Brouwers cafe.If you don't want to go that far the Tap House in Belleuve has a large selection (160taps) if you just want to get some beers in.
