While getting the brewery up and running at MBC, we had hired some HVAC guys to do a lot of the rebuilding and installation in the cellar (steam boiler, glycol, etc.). After working they would head up to the bar and have a few rounds, BMC (yes, we kind of carry it...that's another story), or if they were feeling 'risky' they would get some NC Scrimshaw Pilsner (at this point we didn't have our own yet). They have come back several times for beers since I started cranking beer out of here. Last week I came out the cellar, saw them sitting at the bar and stopped to chat. They had Dubbels, APAs and Witbiers in front of them and were genuinely enjoying them. One of their SOs then joined in, the bartender asked what she wanted and the guys said to try one of the beers. She hems and haws for a bit, they keep insisting, then she drops the bomb, "But, its all just beer." Then in unison, all the guys respond "OOOHH" and look right over at me, where I'm facepalming... :) Anyway, she says that she's a wine drinker. Ok, what kind of wine do you like? "Red." Oh, I see. Try the Dubbel and/or the Spiced Dubbel. She downs a Dubbel and I come back up later to see her halfway through a Witbier and I ask how she's doing. "These beers are good!"I love it when people have a moment of enlightenment with a pint of my beer. https://www.brews-br...tyle_emoticons/default/headbang.gif

:) Congratulations, you don't happen to give out stickers that say "I'M CONVERTED" do you :) ? I don't know if we will have time after the upper muny park next saturday, but you've got me really interested. I could always tell SWMBO that it's right on the way home.

Awsome! That has to be a fantastic feeling. My parents will be in town soon, I believe we are going to visit Mattingly and try a couple beers and some food. Looking forward to it!

This is a great transformation you've seen. A few people in my neighborhood refer to "flavors" of beer (example - What flavors of beer do you like?). It makes me cringe a little bit - hopefully I'm maintaining poker face :)

That "what flavors?" question always makes me shudder. "Well, the styles (or non-styles in my case) we have are..."

This is how we promote the cause - one or two converts at a time. Pretty soon there will be droves of other people joining us who appreciate other "flavors" of beer besides "plain".

I don't like the flavor of diacetyl for the most part.... I do love when people who for some reason have very low expectations for what beer tastes like try one of mine only to realize in epiphany that beer is wonderful! My mom hated beer until a few years ago I finally got her to try some of mine and that opened the floodgates. Another friend of mine (who's father ironically has been a brewmaster for 41 years) would only drink Keystone because she said she hated the flavor of beer and wanted only tasteless, easy to drink alcohol. Since I have known her I have gently persuaded her to trying other stuff, just a sip here and there. She was always like, eh, its ok but I couldn't drink much of it. I can't fully give any of my own beers credit for her, but she called SWMBO the other day to meet us out for a slice and a few beers. When we arrived, she was drinking a hefe. I of course quickly noticed and she said that it is her favorite now and can't see what she was thinking before... Onward with enlightenment! Cheers to you and your work Drew!
