I used golden promise for the first time on Friday and I noticed an almost candy-like smell while mashing. A similar smell is now coming out of my airlock. It reminds me of something - but what???

Malt?

It's different than the other base malts I've used (2-row, munich, pilsen, MO). Maybe it's just extra extra malty.

I get a "candy" like malt aroma from pils mashing (trippel, blonde, pilsner, etc.) GP makes me think of bread more than candy. Very "toast" smelling.

well, the dark crystal malt coupled with the GP and the little bit of roast, could create a sweet nutty araoma. but I digress, sometimes things smell different for different folks.

I love GP and you're right, it is full of extra malty goodness... definitely has a great taste...

True that. I was fermenting a lager awhile back in my chest freezer. A friend came over and I said smell this, and opened the chest freezer. He took a whif and I said, "Smells like farts, huh?" He replied, "I was gonna say eggs." I guess that's why I don't like eggs, they smell like farts.
