I have 4 taps on my kegerator. I usually have one of these tap dedicated to soda, and occasionally one of the taps for wine. The shanks I have been using are the standard chrome plated ones. I have noticed that the chrome is coming off, especially one the ones I have used for soda or wine. I was thinking about getting a couple of stainless steel shanks. While shopping for the stainless ones, I ran across a recommendation to use plastic shanks for wine. The plastic shanks are pricey, and I would rather go with stainless steel unless there is going to be some kind of bad reaction. Is using a stainless shank for soda or wine a bad idea? I don't want to have to replace them anytime soon, and I don't want anything bad leaching into our drinks.

I would think SS would be fine. Remember, that's what cornies originally were used for, storing soda. They're made of stainless and don't hold flavors or leach chemicals.

Yeah, especially if the plastic shanks are more expensive!Remember, most commercial wine is fermented in stainless these days, even oaked wine probably spends a considerable amount of time in stainless.
