So my hops (2nd year Fuggle) were off to an amazing start 6 great shoots nice and strong cut back from around 10 or so. It was all nice and good til today.I checked my shoots and BAM! 3 OF THEM WERE EATEN. Im pretty pissed.so i guess we could make this an official topic for all things hop safety and what to do.to remedy my situation i grabbed a milk crate and a bowling ball and set it on top untill the shoots get plenty strong.the hop damage was minimal they ripped the top half off and well i still got another 3-4 healthy ones.DIE EVIL VERMIN

I wonder it that is what took a couple of my shoots last year? There is an old recipe for keeping things off/out of the garden. Something like hot sauce, soap and water. Spray what you want to protect.

I will bring you a sack of dog hair, free of charge, when we trade hops later this week. Place it in old socks near the plants to deter any critters.

I put chicken wire around my hops to keep the squirrels from digging them up and eating them. Works great. No gopher problems, thank God.
