I put my usual fish emulsion on the hops this morning, and will in a week or so, will be adding some blood meal for vegetative growth, and when they look like they are starting to flower, will be adding bone meal to boost flower production. What does the braintrust use that is similar/different????

that sounds like a good planPersonally I just use a little miracle grow. Soil gets some steer manure in the fall.

I just planted 5 rhizomes yesterday. I fertilized with some liquid miracle gro fertilizer.

For the first year rhizomes, I use this............. https://www.rootblast.com/ It is essential to root formation, and I use it for seedling vegetables as well.I forgot to mention this, as my plants are all second and third year. But I highly recommend it to all who plant rhizomes, and vegetable seedlings, after all, a strong root structure is essential to a strong healthy, productive plant above ground.

Growing in a planter I'm using Miracle Grow Moisture Control Potting Mix which has food built in. I'll add liquid Miracle Grow to my water next season I think, and skip it this season.

Couple years ago, I grew two huge Mt Hood bines in 18 gallon pots. I used Miracle grow as directed every ten days.

Hops don't really have much in the way of fertilizer requirements. Most of hop's nitrogen needs are taken care of if you have a nitrogen affixing cover crop (clover) and return the vines back to the yard after harvest. Phosphorus uptake is only ~20lbs/acre, which is pretty light. And the potassium needs can be easily supplied by ground unless a soil test indicates other wise.Pretty much it comes down to if you have soil with a decent pH (6.0+) and that drains well you're going to end up growing pretty good hops.
