Not sure if this belongs in the Beer forum or not, but it is a brewing related question. :)So, last weekend while I was brewing I was wondering what the heck to do with my cooler that was full of Iodophor/water that I was using to sanitize my bottles and other brewing equipment. I thought about draining it out on my lawn, but then I wasn't sure if it would kill my lawn or if it would be good for it or not. I ended up dumping it on an area that was just rocks, but I would like to not waste it if possible.My buddy said that he did some searching and said that somewhere said that it was a micro-nutrient. I don't know about that though.What do ya'll think?

I can't remember if it was StarSan or PBW I dumped on the lawn, but it left two big burn spots... not that that helps you, but there you go

I've dumped iodophore solution from sanitized carboys straight onto my lawn many times with no noticeable ill effects.

I use Iodaphor as well and I haven't seen any problems. Try a test area in your yard just to be sure and then water away!!!

+1, no harm to the grass in my experience either, though I don't do this frequently. The rododhendron on that side of the lawn is looking good for the first time in years... coincidence?

I've dumped on the grass to no ill effects. I did however create a nice ring in my grass when I set the Keggle on the grass to give it a spray with a high pressure nozzle... unfortunately it hadn't coold "that much" after the boil.

I've dumped Star San and I THINK it may have burned the grass. there are some burns there, but I'm not positive it was the Star San. I do assume it was though

I've dumped a few gallons of iodophor water on the lawn with no impact. At some much higher saturation point iodine is not good for lawns, seeping into gardens, sewers, etc. but my understanding is that the levels we use are harmless.

+1, the concentrations of properly diluted iodophor solutions is very similar to that of drinking water disinfected with the iodine water purification tablets you use while camping.
