I know nothing about these since I have not done gaming in 20 years.

My 12 year old wants and Xbox.  I have a $200 Verizon gift card and I can get a 512 MB Series S Console for $100.  That is the only one they have, the rest are sold out or will not allow me to add to cart.  Is this a waste of money and would it be better to get the Series X.  He is paying the remainder of the money so the $100 look a lot better for him.

The big difference is that X can function as a DVD/Bluray player and can handle games on disc. The S only gets its games via downloading, so with that 512 MB, you're just limited on what you can have locally at any given time (but the games are still in your online library).

The S will get him in game
