I pruned 27 THOUSAND fake "validating" accounts, removed orphan links and attachments, rebuilt the indexes. It seems to be better.
Locking the mega-threads won't help immediately, it will just make them eligible for archiving in a couple years. (We run a 2 year archive schedule all the time.)

Personally I fucking hate the mega threads, maybe the exception is the LULZ but a time limit would help

Yeah, they do become a catch-all which has it's down sides.
