On pretty much every front but storage.  So I guess no new Madden for the boy because upgrading CPU, ram and GPU seems like a lot to me on top of $70.  God damn it, EA!

It could handle Madden 22 just fine as long as I didn't have the graphics settings cranked all the way up.

Same here.  Mine is too old to run Win11, nevermind some of the newer titles hitting the street (Elden Ring, Starfield, etc).  Even some older games are a bit taxing.

Saving up now for to get a new rig in the next year or two.  Got enough games to play in the meantime, but a total rig replacement is on the horizon.

How old is the computer?  Definitely cheaper to buy a PS5 than upgrade all that stuff.  I got my son a new video card for Xmas and that was like $300, I think.  Not even a higher end one, strictly middle of the road.

Probably 2 years? Not sure. It was slightly budget even then.

Yeah, $500 isn't too bad. I haven't been following this stuff at all so no clue if something more awesomer is about to come out.

When I bought my current computer this was the cheapest way to get an okay graphics card.

I needed to upgrade to play the newest iteration of Cities Skylines. I don't really play much else on the PC.

I bought an old Lenovo Thinkstation server with Xeon and put in a capable GPU. That'll suffice for a while.

Got a new CPU on the way, a i7-6850k, for $140.  Also have a new (still in the box) liquid CPU cooler (got it a few years back as a warranty replacement from my PC builder when I thought my current cooler was dying, but ended up not using it).

Most new games coming out won't run on my current CPU (an i7-5930k), so between the new CPU and cooler, I should be able to get a few more years out of my current rig before I need a full rig replacement.

I haven't looked into it but how limited are the mobo chipsets these days?  that's usually what got you in the past.

Not sure.  I matched my current mobo to the CPU I picked through pcpartpicker.com to make sure they were compatible.
