I have always been a toaster oven > toaster. You can do so much more in a toaster oven. Although I still think that is true I have made the switch.

We needed to replace our oven. We replace it with a double oven setup. With the smaller oven heating up so fast I questioned the need for the toaster oven. The toaster oven went away and replace with a dual slice toaster, gained a little counter space. The toast is better and faster than the toaster oven.

We have a Breville toaster oven that gets used pretty much every day, with the oven that is part of the range getting used maybe 3 times a year. We also have a toaster (Breville) which is pretty awesome too. I think I would fight harder to keep the toaster oven than the toaster, and honestly could live completely without the oven in the stove.

I have had (on field test) over the range microwave/convection oven combos, and they aren't as good....

We have all three.  I use the toaster oven as a supplement to the big oven, but I never make actual toast in it.

We also got a double oven when we replaced our range last year. Same thing, super fast heating of the upper oven. We use the smaller oven most of the time - faster heating, less heat given off in the summer, etc but very nice to have both and we do use both.

Anyway, although our toaster oven makes pretty good toast (it's the Panasonic one recommended by the Wirecutter), when it goes we'll just get a regular toaster as well and stash it in the pantry. We might do that anyway, I hate counter clutter.

I timed it once, the toaster oven took 6.5 minutes to preheat to 400 and the big oven takes 8.

When the toaster oven died we replaced it with a toaster and we're not sorry.

And of course you can make toast in the oven, with or without the broiler. I actually haven't done this with the new oven. It's slightly less convenient (for small quantities of toast, anyway), but we don't make toast more than once a week at the most

We have the Ninja flip toaster oven and we use it almost daily. We like it so much we want to upgrade to the XL just so we can use our actual oven even less.

I use the smaller one when I can because it throws less heat into the room.

I've never really noticed that much of a difference in heat output but admittedly I haven't really paid attention to it. We have pretty good climate control :D

It matters to us because we don't have AC. The small oven on our double oven is insulated enough that it doesn't seem to put out significantly more heat into the room than the poorly insulated toaster oven. Our old oven put a ton of heat into the room and we really avoided using it during the warmest few months of the year.

I have not had a conventional toaster in I don't know how long.  We had a Krups toaster oven at the house that lasted 20+ years and AFAIK it's still there.  When I moved in here I got a Cuisinart toaster oven that I use pretty much every day.  Great for pizza, warming a flour tortilla, the occasional bagel, etc.  If the answer is "you can have one or the other so which one will it be?".  Toaster oven.

I hate toaster ovens. They make crappy toast and otherwise do the same thing as a regular oven marginally faster while taking up valuable counter real estate. Down with toaster ovens!!!

Of course, if your oven runs 24/7 then toaster ovens are completely obsolete. #winning

the double oven was the game changer. It made the toaster oven duplicative. We purchased the toaster to save counter space the bonus is that it made, toast, bagels etc better.

I always used a toaster ovens since I was in college in 1990

My oven actually can run 24/7 but they've also included this cool feature where you turn it off on a whim but then it heats back up when needed in 5-10 minutes. I think GPT4 designed it

We had an electric double oven at the house that I miss, actually.  But it was just a double convection oven... did not have anything "hot and quick" like a toaster oven.  Not to muddy the water but my kids got me an air fryer for Christmas and I have not used it yet.  What would happen if you tried to "toast" something in the air fryer?

We have a large toaster oven that the wife calls an "air fryer" but is really just a toaster oven with fans.

The toaster is best for toast.  The toaster oven/ air fryer is best for warm sandwiches and re-heating leftovers, especially pizza.  The big oven is best for cooking roasts or casseroles.

I just timed the smaller of the double oven 7 minutes to hit 400. I never timed the toaster oven I assume it would have been around 5. The extra size of the smaller double oven opens it to things the toaster oven could not handle.

As far as convection. Only the larger oven has that feature. It has three settings bake, roast and air fry. It appears that the difference is fan speed and if the top and bottom burners are being used. Air fry said you don't need to preheat.

I think you could toast something in an air fryer

Our kitchen was tiny and had this huge unused corner.  We got rid of the range, put a dishwasher in the corner, and made a rolling cart with a toaster oven and some hot plates.  Used that setup for 2 years before we did a remodel.  Still have that rolling cart with toaster oven (and a microwave now instead of a hot plate).
