I tried resetting my password (b/c I currently can't remember it) but no email ever arrived. Is this feature broken?

so weird. so I obviously changed my display name but every time I tried to change my display name it said the password was wrong. then I completely signed out and signed back in with the alleged "wrong" password and now the name change went through??? this why I thought I didn't know the password. maybe the issue is something to do with the display name changing.
