Apple knowingly reduces the CPU usage on older phones to avoid battery usage in ios updates.

It throttles the CPU to reduce peak power draw and voltage sag on aged batteries to prevent the phone from spontaneously crashing.

My work recently blocked the ability to mount usb mass storage devices on our laptops. Before that I could plug my phone in and win10 would let me browse and import photos.

They don’t let me do it

You can’t plug in and transfer? Hell, I have the option to do it right to windows photos.

Are you on a work phone?

To be clear, I just accessed all photos from the file navigator, imported from iTunes, AND imported them via auto prompt on the MS photo app.

It is laid out on the MS and apple website how to do the last two.

Saying this isn’t possible is factually incorrect. If you can’t, most likely operator error or a work phone firewall.

Everything I did was on a work phone, btw.

Lol, I do love the “old man shakes fist at cloud” vibe you guys bring to situations where apple is involved though.

I'm not sure about crashing other than expected battery drain to zero. I don't recall that. Regardless it's a setting now that can be disabled. I can't imagine why someone would disable it. Most people won't notice reduced real-world performance, but they will notice a dead battery in the middle of the day. Better than the alternative of replacing the old battery that's still technically functional.

Yep. It extends the life of an older device. I don't see what the issue is.

Glad it works for you, but they do seem to make it difficult if you don’t buy their shit or have all your ducks in a row. My wife had the same problem, on a personal phone and PC with no extra security shit.

Dunno what to tell you, I did it on a. Computer that I’ve never plugged a phone into. Literally had to install iTunes, and got the option for windows import even before then. Could also access via file explorer and drag and drop.

I believe that iTunes would allow for this (iPhone => Windows PC) but the last time I tried to do this you could not just plug the iPhone into a Windows PC, navigate to the phone as if it were a drive, find pictures and then drag and drop them to the PC.  I'd like to try it the next time someone with an iPhone was here.  I'm using W11 here and I haven't tried this in awhile.  I think that an important point here too is that someone with some amount of sorcery might be able to find a way to do it... our group here is pretty tech-saavy.  But IMO, something like transferring photos shouldn't require ANY sorcery at all.  At some point my wife had a Microsoft Surface and asked me to transfer the photos she had on her phone to the Surface.  I could not do it directly... I needed to install iTunes on the Surface, then use that to grab the photos and drop them into a folder.  Doable, yes.  Super simple, not really and I don't understand why it would have to be that way.

Got enough space cleared for the update, and now Apple will allow me to copy from the phone like an external drive.

I forgot to post my other gripe- the "Find My" app saying it is live while showing old location info.  The other night we had finished round 1 of sexy time and were considering round 2.  Our son wasn't supposed to be home for another hour, but I wanted to make sure he was still at work.  The app showed that he was on the way home- the dot wasn't moving, but it did jump around a bit like it was trying to get a fix.  After we got dressed and put everything away, I realized the location was from several days before.  :stabby:

My wife once chewed out our youngest son because she was spying on him during a school day and Find My Friends showed him at a home that was on a street near the high school ALL DAY.  He said he stopped at that kid's house to pick him up in the morning but otherwise was in school all day.  If the kids ever missed a class, an email and voicemail was automatically sent to use.  It was only later that she realized that Find My Friends is very often "inaccurate" at best.

You can exactly plug an iPhone into it and navigate to it like it’s a drive. I did it.

I use iCloud to get phone pic on the PC. And also move pics off of the PC. That's pretty simple.

Now, how Apple files and folders shit sucks, but I can drag and drop easy enough

I guess if you put them all together again they might add up to 15
