Not bad. I wonder if something like this would change Jeeps stance on electrifying the Gladiator since the Taco and Ranger Raptor is it's direct competitor.

You have my attention...

starting at $50k? still not cheap enough for me to entertain selling/trading a gasser yet.

That and they will only make like 3 of them at that price/trim level. I bet the common ones go for close to 70.

exactly, just like the f150. I'm sure it'll be a good truck, just not anywhere near affordable (or practical in my case). I would LOVE to get something like the R1S or F150 for the wife, for her it would be a perfect vehicle, but they just cost way to damn much to justify for the small amount of driving she does

That’ll be a hot ticket. Poor man’s Rivian.
I mean, i’m taking liberties with “poor” here but you get it.
Anymore $50k for a new vehicle is really average low end. Anything less than that and you're looking at a shitbox with four wheels.
By the time I pay my Gladiator off if Jeep has improved the range on the wranger 4Xe or made a fully electric wrangler 2 door I'll probably get one of those for my daily driver and keep the Gladi in the driveway for when I want to go play.

I kinda like... and I'm not even into pickups (despite owning one for two years and ditching it because I didn't really like having a truck)

those prices were purely speculative.

Yeah true, when Rivian first started the R1T was supposed to start at $60k and here we are hovering around $100k

I don't think Toyota has said anything on price, have they?
and I'm not sure I'd really compare a auto manufacturer startup like Rivian with Toyota. not a dig but I'm guessing very different ways of operating.

Probably not from Toyota but there was a speculative pricepoint in the article.
Didn't take it as a dig. Toyota is a very different company. They have their shit together...

I've heard there will probably be a plug in and maybe ev maverick as well. the ev maverick will probably be more affordable but not nearly as well made.

I would be more into EVs if there was a gas backup option. Like a hybrid - you run out of juice you can switch to a small gas generator to keep things running. "small" Dunno how big that'd have to be. But it's going to be a long time before i trade a 5 minute fillup for frequent 20 minute stops. Maybe when im retired and don't care about the clock.

FTR - you had a ridgeline, that's not a truck

i'm quite sure I've heard there will be an EV maverick.

And a lot less range. I wouldn't think the Maverick could carry the same battery as the Ranger and F150 and still be a useful vehicle.

plug in hybrid is a pretty good compromise for you.

the same reason it can't hold as large of a battery is the same reason it doesn't need as large of a battery

I dont necessarily agree with this, you can get a nice new ranger crew 4x4 xlt (their midline package) at $40k msrp, even in base trim they are nice trucks. and of course the maverick can be had in 4wd/crew cab trim for $30k. there are a lot of small SUV's in the 30's as well. if you want top of the line then of course you're gonna pay top of the line but if you need new there are plenty of vehicles out there that are reasonable.
besides, now that used cars are beginning to come down I expect that new car premiums will be disappearing and rebates will start returning as well.

Yeah, i like the idea of not having the gas engine engaged when im just trying to drink in my parked car in the garage pretending like im drinking and driving but im not driving because i need two hands to chug. But then it kicks in later when i need to round off the night with some CO.
