I just saw that when I was reviewing the red cross page. The whole blood donation makes you ineligible for any donation for 8 weeks. Plasma and or plasma with platelets is 1 week. So you could donate plasma regularly and still be quickly eligible for whole/red cell donation if needed.

Here are the requirements and on the page the medication deferrals

Thanks for that. It doesn't appear as though I am prohibited in any way. That's something else good to look forward to.

Wonder why Red Cross says plasma every 28days when the plasma pay places are 2x a week.

I don't have the current limitations. But there is a frequency limitation like every 1 or 2 weeks and also a rolling year limitation.

So when I was in NY and the blood center would send me my spreadsheet on request I could donate platelets every week if I wanted to. However, too many weeks in a row would bring me over my rolling year for plasma or red cell loss.

When you donate platelets that is a fixed calculation for red cells left in the machine and a variable amount of plasma that increases with the amount of platelets you donate.

I believe I could do 13 triple platelet donations in a year and stay just under the rolling year limits. So NY Blood center may recommend a platelet donation each month so that they get a steady donation flow over the year where another place may say every 2 weeks because they just want to max out how many donations they can get in the short term.

Red Cross lets us do 24 platelet donations per year, I don’t think single double or triple matters. Every 28 says they can get an extra plasma unit alongside the normal amount that platelets are suspended in.

yep every 7 days up to 24 times a year but with an * disclaimer that red cell or plasma loss may limit your donations

Platelet Donation
  • Donation frequency: Every 7 days, up to 24 times/year*

*Disclaimers

*The number of allowable donations per year may be lower due to red cell and plasma loss limit guidelines. Final eligibility will be determined by the American Red Cross at the time of donation.

Yep, they have a rolling 365 day loss limit calculator in their backend system that keeps track of stuff and won’t let you schedule if you hit those limits.

At my donation tonight they said my platelet count from last visit on 12/29 was 341, that’s the highest it’s ever tested at.

I was commenting on plasma, you can do that 2x a week privately if balancing the days between correctly.

It's a recognized condition and may be a strong element that factors into some undiagnosable/idopathic ailments. In Julie's case, her self-diagnostic and treatment approach may have worsened the infection past the point of no return. She spent a significant amount of time using immunosuppressive steriods to treat something else (can't remember specifically), which would enable an opportunistic overgrowth of babesia. By the time she locked in on Babesia and began the correct treatment, her body couldn't handle the septic load of mass babesia cell death.

Anyway, that's my present understanding, which may be different from Scott and his team.

It's 100% on the doctors who didn't get the diagnosis correct after many attempts. Their ego and lack of intellectual curiosity has harmed so many people over the years.
