Or is it just Z-APA (I'll probably just go with Gusso's Garage Beer)? I brewed my first beer using Zappa hops yesterday. I used Lutra (dry) yeast and the gravity is down from 1.072 to 1.016 in 24 hours. I bittered with CZT (1 oz) for my 30 minute boil, followed by a WP with 1 oz of cascade and 2 oz of Zappa. I will DH with the same. I got a spicy, pepper sort of vibe from them when I weighed them out. The descriptions for Zappa are all over the map. We shall see how they work out soon.

Just kegged this up. The sample has potential. I'll dive in deep on the 4th of July.

it did have a different odor when I was resealing that one up.  since I was in a rush I didn't take my time to really evaluate it though.

I honestly don't remember the specifics. I just remember it being tasty but I think I would use a bit more next time.

based on reviews this is a "love it or hate it" kind of hop.  apparently it's really intense based on the reviews.

A couple a quarts of beer will fix it so the intonation would not offend your ear

that's what I was thinking as well and I'll have some fresh yeast to harvest soon.  I'm reading a lot of mixed reviews on these hops.  lots of people not liking them or maybe they are just really divisive.  I don't think I've ever had a beer made with them.

The fwh addition didn't smell too crazy. I'm wondering if these aren't going to be as intense as advertised.

I didn't find them too intense when I used them. But it was a while ago when I brewed with them and I only used a few ounces.

I used 7oz between fwh, boil and hop stand. It actually didn't smell really hoppy but we'll see after it's done.

Never mind. I saw your recipe.

just over the course of today I've tasted a lot of different things with this hop.  it's a weird one so I can see why it would work with something like Lutra.

So weird but I swear I can still taste this hop this morning. And yes, I did brush my teeth last night lol!

Like I'm drinking coffee and I can taste Zappa. Wtf????

Perhaps I'll try a Zappa SMaSH, too. I think it'll be higher OG(1070-ish) with most of the hops at WP and DH. We'll see, I do have some taps to fill.

A year later but I'm doing another Zappa beer! It's been mashing for 90 minutes. Getting ready for a 30 minute boil.

Why the 90 min mash?
