If the bags have air space in them, that's bad.

What if they are nitrogen purged? I thought that was some selling point of some hop place before.

that's what I'm hoping. the most important stuff to me (citra, azacca, chinook, simcoe) all looks fine. it's the belma, comet, farmer's blend and zappa that are a little "loose".
they provided a nice recipe for a single hop recipe for the belma. in the realm of a drez apa in terms of grain bill.
base malt of GP
some vienna malt
bittering hops
then whirlpool and dry hopping
eta: only downside is that it appears to be a 5 gallon recipe that uses all 8oz

We do all of our own Domestic and most Import hop pelleting here on the farm in our California Pellet Mill, producing T-90 hop pellets. Our pellets are packaged in (4.2m) multi-layered, high-barrier, soft pack mylar bags and vacuum sealed with a nitrogen flush. Pellets are stored in our cold storages here on our farm until delivery straight to you.

Back a long time ago when I found that 5#/5$ deal it took a couple of days for them to get back. I believe it is all family run and not a huge staff but I may be wrong.

Doesn't matter if they're nitro purged id a hole is letting air in.

I did not assume there was a hole. I just assumed they did not vacuum seal as tight as others.

yeah, it seems unlikely that so many bags ended up with a hole. one? sure. but 4 bags? how? there was nothing in the box to puncture them.

I recently received (4) 1 pound bags of hops from Michigan Alliance. They were nitrogen purged but none of the bags were vacuum sealed as tightly as I typically expect. I mean, when I vacuum seal hops after opening, the bags get all "bumpy" from squishing into the pellets. These weren't like that - they weren't overly loose but there was room to move them around a bit. That being said, I used some of the Zappa hops yesterday and plan on using Mackinac next week.
that's a pretty good description of how some of these were. and they did seem to tighten slightly after some time in the freezer. still looser than I'm used to though.
