This is the first hands on video I've seen of the R1S.  Looks pretty damn sweet.

size wise it looks to be about just a touch longer than the 4dr bronco, but the rest of the dimension look about the same.  just based on the video

I saw a white one the other day.  Damn sexy

Also someone here at work has a blue R1T.  And I thought *I* was being fancy driving an older 911 around.  That thing clearly cost a pretty penny :P

Not gonna lie if that thing ever had the range I would need... I would be all over it.

Actually depending on how my life goes forward, I might no longer need that kind of range

It’s an EV, so there’s a $7,500 tax credit, and then you can save a similar amount in fuel. $75k is more like a $60k gas car.

Interior but he also undstands it is meant to look utilitarian. Biggest is his 5-6 mile drive to work is usually about 32 miles in battery life, and until his charging station is installed a cord gets him 1 mph of charge. He can go down the street and plug into the tesla banks for now. It got me wo during as it is advertised for offroad and camping how viable it really is in those situations at this point.

Last year the Jeep club was at Badlands offroad park in Indiana and there was a bunch of R1T's there that day as well. They all kept up with us no problem. Actually they made it look kinda easy...

My car takes 10-20 miles off the battery to warm up on a cold day, because there's no free heat to scavenge like on an ICE car.  So it's probably something like 25 miles of battery charge for the first mile, and 7 miles of charge for the next 4-5 miles.

You get 20-30% less range in the winter, you need to be ready for that if you get an EV in a cold climate. Manufacturers do a really bad job explaining this to customers. That being said the “range” that the car is telling you is a calculation. Every mfg gets to decide what their calculation looks like. Once it got cold my Lightning’s “range” dropped from about 300 at 100% to 220. I completely expected this and 220 is a reasonable range estimate for winter but Ford was inundated with complaints about “broken” trucks so they just pushed a software update that changed the range calculation so that it always says 320 miles when the truck is fully charged. It still will only get 220 miles of actual driving range but uninformed customers get to *feel* like they are getting the “320 mile truck” they paid for. For the first 50 miles the “range” drops over 100 miles and then the calculation is the same as it always was. By the time i get to 50% battery the range will always read around 100 miles. So it goes from 320 to 100 in the first 100 miles of driving then it’s pretty accurate estimate below 50%.

In the end, I don’t even pay attention to the range estimate (in EV enthusiast circles it’s referred to as the Guess-o-meter). I only look at the % battery. I know how much energy is in the battery and how many miles per kilowatt-hour that my truck gets under certain situations. I have to figure out my own expected range based on those numbers because there is no way the software can determine whether i’ll be using more energy (highway) or less (surface roads).

Actually, no, his vehicle is probably broken. Ask if he wants to do a straight up swap for a Lightning. ;)
